Sweet and Spicy Nuts: Perfect Blend of Flavors You’ll Love

I like these Sweet and Spicy Nuts because they are not overly sweet. Have you ever had those candied nuts that are super hard and you can taste more sugar than you can nut? These are not like that!

These nuts are still soft and chewy. There is just a nice hint of sweet and orange and a little bit of spice. The flavors all blend nicely in perfect harmony πŸ˜€

Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!Click To Tweet

Sweet and Spicy Nuts

Ingredients:

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350F. Put the nuts in a large mixing bowl. Mix the syrup, orange zest, juice & chipotle together in a small bowl. Pour the syrup mixture over the nuts and stir until they are nicely coated.

Spread nuts on a greased baking sheet or line with a silicone baking mat. Roast in the oven for 25 minutes, stirring once around the halfway mark. Remove from oven and spread out on parchment paper to avoid the nuts sticking together.

While I was taking a picture my youngest couldn’t help but take a sample. His hand photo bombed my pic and it was too cute not to include it here. πŸ˜€

* I did a mix of nuts I already had in my freezer so there were pecans, walnuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, peanuts & hazelnuts in my mix. You can do any mix you like or just do walnuts if you just want some candied walnuts. You get to choose πŸ˜€

** You do not have to buy this specialty ingredient to make these sweet & spicy nuts. I have used 1 – 1.5 tsp chipotle chili powder before and like it that way also. The Chipotle Ranch is less spicy so I used more of it than straight chipotle powder. My friend sales Wildtree and I have linked to her page if you are interested in purchasing. It is not an affiliate link, I just enjoy their products.

I really enjoy the orange hint you get on these Sweet and Spicy Nuts, with the zest and juice. My husband is not the biggest fan of orange he prefers these without the zest making the orange flavor milder. Just another alteration to the recipe if you are concerned about the orange flavor. πŸ˜€

Excuse me while I geek out:

Citrus peels have higher concentrations of Vitamin C & phytochemicals than their juice & pulp do. Plus they still have high levels of antioxidants too.

The d-limonene (a phytochemical) protects skin cells from oxidative stress which can help reduce the risks of developing some skin cancers.

With oranges specifically, there have been studies that have found the flavonoids found in the orange peel have anti-inflammatory properties.

Pretty crazy huh?! So if you like orange flavor make sure you add that zest! πŸ˜‰
