Take it Easy – Let Yourself Relax
Taking enough time for yourself during the holiday season is also very important when you want to reduce stress. A lot of the stress during the holidays comes from the extra things being added to your calendar or to do list. Which take time away from your downtime.
Try to find at least a few minutes every day where you can relax, preferably with a quiet activity you can do on your own. This might be reading a book while your kids do their homework, getting up a little early in the morning for a quick meditation session or taking a bath after the kids are in bed. Make a goal and set aside a few minutes of me time. You’ll feel better and be less irritable if you can relax and do something you enjoy every day.
The holiday season is a time of indulgence, it doesn’t mean you should abandon your healthy ways though. There’s no need for a free for all that will just add to your stress… If not now it certainly will come January 1st.
I want you to enjoy yourself, I’m not telling you not to. Just do it smartly and know what and when you want to splurge. If it’s helpful try having a healthy snack before any gatherings. Try to plan as far ahead as you can. make your holiday shopping list early, start shopping a little bit each weekend, get help with Christmas dinner preparations. You don’t have to do it all yourself or if you really kinda do have to I highly recommend you find some side dishes that you can make ahead of time and freeze. Just don’t forget to thaw them a day or two before your big dinner. 😉
Self care is a conscious choice and this is even truer during times of stress, like the holidays. Make sure to take the time and create a deliberate plan! A stress free Christmas is completely within your grasp.
One more thing I encourage you to do. It is important to take the time to figure out what is honestly causing your stress. That will help you determine what is the best method of relieving your stress or which of the above suggestions you should prioritize and implement.
