The expectations of social events, gift shopping and entertaining can become too much. With stress comes a greater risk of anxiety and depression. Which is not what we want to experience during the holidays!

All is not lost, a stress free Christmas can still be in your grasp. There are many ways to minimize your stress and anxiety allowing yourself to truly enjoy this special season.

4 Tips For A Stress Free Christmas

I know what you are thinking … Who has time to exercise in between all of the other activities? I know, trust me!

Remember that you don’t have to exercise for a long time; just try to take a brisk walk at the very least. It will help clear our mind and the endorphins help a lot … they really do. Try some of these 10 ways to sneak in 10 minutes of exercise each day.

Take it Easy – Let Yourself Relax

Taking enough time for yourself during the holiday season is also very important when you want to reduce stress. A lot of the stress during the holidays comes from the extra things being added to your calendar or to do list. Which take time away from your downtime.

Try to find at least a few minutes every day where you can relax, preferably with a quiet activity you can do on your own. This might be reading a book while your kids do their homework, getting up a little early in the morning for a quick meditation session or taking a bath after the kids are in bed. Here are 7 Self Care Activities you can try also.

Make a goal and set aside a few minutes of me time. You’ll feel better and be less irritable if you can relax and do something you enjoy every day.

Stay Smart

The holiday season is a time of indulgence, it doesn’t mean you should abandon your healthy ways though. There’s no need for a free for all that will just add to your stress… If not now it certainly will come January 1st.

I want you to enjoy yourself, I’m not telling you not to. Just do it smartly and know what and when you want to splurge. If it’s helpful try having a healthy snack before any gatherings. Make sure you get plenty of sleep because you are more likely to overindulge if you aren’t getting enough rest. Plan Ahead

If the holidays tend to be too hectic for you, it might be from lack of preparation. Leaving everything to the last minute is going to cause a lot of stress and chaos.

Try to plan as far ahead as you can. make your holiday shopping list early, start shopping a little bit each weekend, get help with Christmas dinner preparations. You don’t have to do it all yourself or if you really kinda do have to I highly recommend you find some side dishes that you can make ahead of time and freeze. Just don’t forget to thaw them a day or two before your big dinner. 😉

Bottom Line

Self care is a conscious choice and this is even truer during times of stress, like the holidays. Make sure to take the time and create a deliberate plan! A stress free Christmas is completely within your grasp.

One more thing I encourage you to do. It is important to take the time to figure out what is honestly causing your stress. That will help you determine what is the best method of relieving your stress or which of the above suggestions you should prioritize and implement.

Remember the holidays are supposed to be a time of fun, family & relaxation.  Don’t let stress and anxiety interfere with this great time of year.
