I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week! Do you already have your menu planned? Are you going to try to have a healthy Thanksgiving?

There are definitely things I plan to splurge on. I believe in a happy balance and I will make some things healthier so that I can indulge on others.

Here are 6 EASY ways to lighten Thanksgiving up this year.


  1. Eat white or dark meat but leave the skin behind.

2. Add plain greek yogurt to mashed potatoes instead of butter and cream

3. Cook your stuffing in muffin tins for easy portion control or try this wild rice recipe or this super tasty celery salad instead.

4. Instead of the typical marshmallow covered sweet potatoes try roasting them with a little oil and a sprinkle of cinnamon or try these Roasted Garlic Sweet Potatoes.

5. Apple and pumpkin pie have fewer calories & typically less sugar, you could go for them instead of pecan pie. You could also just eat the filling and leave the crust on the plate. But let’s be honest here … This is where I plan on savoring every delicious bite. 😉

6. There are so many different sides that are made at Thanksgiving and this can be a real dilemma. We have an inherent desire to clear our plates off so I want you to try this tip this year. I recommend on your first plate filling to just take one spoonful of every side dish you want. Then you can sit and try a spoonful of everything. Decide what is worth having more of and going back for what you really want or what really tastes good.

5 Thanksgiving leftover tips


  1. If you are hosting dinner give the leftover food to your guests!

2. If you are a guest and food is offered to you don’t fee obligated to say yes!

3. I make a tasty Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup that is great to use leftover Turkey in.

4. Mix turkey, leftover green beans (or other roasted veggies) with some cooked quinoa and make a “bowl” out of it.

5. I also really enjoy a good turkey lettuce wrap. Shred some fresh veggies and wrap with a little cilantro and fresh cranberry sauce. YUMMY!


One of the most important parts of having a Healthy Thanksgiving is enjoying your family and friends and remembering those things you are grateful for. Thank you to an amazing family and extended family, whom I love dearly, I have been truly blessed. I won’t be with them all this holiday but I am thankful for their influence and presence in my life. I am thankful for you and the joy I have in writing these blog posts and the connections I have made.
